The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) officially appointed Jeon Na Yeong as its new chairwoman during a farewell and inaugural ceremony held on August 1, 2025, at the Seoul Space Share Seoul Jungbu Center. The outgoing chairwoman, Yoon Hyun Sook, stepped down after eight years of dedicated leadership.

In her inaugural address, Chairwoman Jeon Na Yeong expressed her commitment to advancing IWPG’s mission as a truly international women’s peace organization. “I am dedicated to making IWPG a beacon of hope and peace in a world often overshadowed by darkness. I will serve as a peace messenger, spreading harmony across the globe. At the same time, I vow to remain humble, listen attentively to all voices, and establish a clear vision alongside our entire team,” she said.

Jeon Na Yeong has been an integral part of IWPG since August 2015. She began her journey as Director of International Policy and subsequently held roles as Director of Strategic Planning and Director of International Affairs. In May 2023, she was appointed Secretary General of IWPG, and immediately before her chairwoman appointment, she served as Regional Director of Global Region 1.

Her international experience includes active participation in United Nations initiatives since 2018. She has represented IWPG at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and various global forums, dedicating herself to nurturing women peace activists worldwide.

Reflecting on IWPG’s growth, Chairwoman Jeon noted, “When I first joined the UN in 2018, our delegation was just three brave members traveling to New York with hope in our hearts. Today, IWPG’s global regions are fully operational, and we have matured into an international organization capable of co-hosting UN Side Events with national governments.”

Outgoing Chairwoman Yoon Hyun Sook praised Jeon’s unwavering support and leadership throughout her tenure. “Chairwoman Jeon stood by me through all the highs and lows of IWPG and led many of our key initiatives. I extend my deepest gratitude to her and all IWPG members for their commitment,” Yoon said.

During her eight-year tenure beginning in 2017, Yoon Hyun Sook championed open dialogue and movement between North and South Korea within the private sector and advocated for international support. She actively participated in the UN CSW to promote the institutionalization of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) among national delegations, NGOs, and stakeholders worldwide. Her leadership furthered IWPG’s core mission to build sustainable peace free from violence and inequality through expanded female leadership.
