*Regional Director Seo-yeon Lee’s Meeting with Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Dr. Houria Khalifa Al-Tarmal
The Global region 2 of International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG, led by Regional Director Seo-yeon Lee) attended the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
On the 14th of last month, At the Libyan Mission to the United Nations in New York, a meeting was held with Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Dr. Houria Khalifa Al-Tarmal, Libyan Parliament members (이름 확인요망), and the third committee expert Mohamed E. M. Abu Snaina.
CSW, a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), convenes annually in March to bring together governments of various countries and related international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to share policy practices for enhancing women’s empowerment and advancing their rights, as well as to explore effective approaches to gender equality policy implementation.
This 68th session focused on “Accelerating the Achievement of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of All Women and Girls by Addressing Poverty and Strengthening Institutions and Financing with a Gender Perspective”.
During this meeting, IWPG shared its organization’s introduction, vision, and peace activities in Libya, and Dr. Houria expressed her intent to participate in the “2024 International Women’s Peace Conference” scheduled for September. Minister Houria Al-Tarmal stated, “IWPG is an essential organization for the development of global women’s peace and will play a significant role.”
In response, Regional Director Seo-yeon Lee proposed immediate collaboration on hosting an exhibition of award-winning works from the “International Loving Peace Art Competition” within the UN next year. Minister Houria Al-Tarmal responded, “That’s a wonderful idea. It will be a great gift for the future peace of children and youth.” They promised to cooperate in mutual peace activities through ongoing communication.
Meanwhile, IWPG is a non-governmental organization with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is also registered with the Department of Global Communications (DGC) as an international women’s peace organization.
IWPG’s vision is to protect precious lives from war and pass on peace to future generations with a motherly heart. To achieve this vision, it has its headquarters in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and actively conducts peace activities in collaboration with over 110 branches worldwide and 660 cooperating organizations.
