On the 2nd, the International Women’s Peace Group Global Region 2 (IWPG, Global 2 Regional Director Seo-yeon Lee) delegation met with ENA Deputy Representative, Negasi Abei and Reporter Desta Kasei at the ENA (Ethiopian News Agency) broadcasting station in Ethiopia.

ENA, established in 1942, is Ethiopia’s official news agency that provides news and information to government agencies, businesses, organizations and other stakeholders in Ethiopia. It is operated by the government and serves to deliver various news occurring at home and abroad to the Ethiopian people and the international community.

At the meeting, the IWPG delegation toured the interior of the ENA broadcasting station, empathized with the importance of the media in peace activities, and shared photos of the Ethiopian embassy’s visit and activities at the UN CSW held in New York last month.

Both IWPG and ENA decided to proceed with a business agreement to establish a mutual cooperation system. Meanwhile, the IWPG delegation explained the ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)’ and announced that they were urging support for it to be submitted to the UN as a resolution.

Deputy Representative Negasi Abey said, “Peace is necessary for everyone, and peace activities are important for Ethiopia as well,” and added, “I agree to a business agreement for cooperation with IWPG and will attend the International Women’s Peace Conference in September.”

IWPG is a special consultative status NGO of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and a women’s peace organization registered with the Department of Global Communications (DGC).
